An Intervention is an organized, clinically-guided
attempt by family and friends to get a loved one who is abusing alcohol
or other drugs to accept treatment.
Because denial is a
symptom of the disease of addiction, it is common for individuals with
alcohol or other drug dependence to not see that they have a problem
that is hurting themselves and others. Structured interventions have
given some individuals with the disease of addiction a powerful enough
dose of reality to propel them into treatment.
"Using the
services of a professional interventionist is one way that family and
friends can try to get a loved one into treatment and on a path to
recovery"
